Job Description:

About the Organisation:
National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHS Scotland providing invaluable support and advice at a strategic and operational level. NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post:
A unique opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to join the National Procurement Medicines Team which is made up of a mix of procurement, logistics and pharmacy professionals committed to supporting Boards to secure best value from medicines spend.

The role involves leading a team that works closely with a diverse range of suppliers, the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS stakeholders to reactively manage and communicate medicines supply issues that arise and to strategically influence improvements in supply chain resilience and efficiency.

The post-holder will also lead National Procurement’s work to support Boards to optimise the opportunities created from National Procurement contracts through effective communication of opportunities, contract variance reporting and developing support tools such as treatment cost comparators.

On behalf of the Scottish Government Health Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response (EPRR) Division, National Procurement co-ordinates national pharmaceutical stockpiles (countermeasures for pandemics and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents). Working closely with the procurement and logistics professionals that operationally manage the stockpile, the postholder will lead on the provision of pharmaceutical advice to the Scottish Government EPRR Division and support NHS Boards' plans to improve and protect the health of the population in the event of a major incident.

The Candidate:
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person who is commercially aware, able to quickly assimilate and analyse information on new topics, is able to plan strategically, has excellent problem-solving, organisation and influencing skills, and works with attention to detail and effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

The candidate will also demonstrate personal qualities consistent with NHS National Services Scotland’s values to work together with respect and care, openness and integrity, to focus on our customers, demonstrate commitment to each other and excel and improve.

Candidates must have current GPhC registration at the time of applying.

Location and Working Pattern:
National Procurement has offices in Edinburgh (Gyle Square) and in Larkhall (National Distribution Centre), and the organisation will support hybrid ways of working between offices and home.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.

Benefits:
Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
