Advisor - Water Resources Resilience - 31494

It’s an exciting time to be involved in planning England’s water resources. Our water supply faces increasing pressure due to droughts and dry weather, with the driest start to the year since 1976. We have published the National Framework for Water Resources to ensure future water security. Your role will be crucial to its success.

First released in March 2020, the framework innovated in planning for resilience to climate change, droughts, and population growth, alongside environmental enhancement. The 2025 update emphasizes urgent water resource challenges and promotes integrated, multi-sector planning at all levels.

Your responsibilities include supporting activities to deliver and implement this framework, working closely with stakeholders such as Defra, regulators, water companies, and sectors like energy and agriculture.

You will join the Water Resources Resilience team, leading the national framework and working across sectors to improve resilience. We are part of the Environment and Business Directorate, influencing policy, legislation, and environmental delivery through evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation.

Experience/Skills Required

We welcome applications from those with a good understanding of water resources, but this is also an opportunity for those outside the field to learn. We are particularly interested if you have:

• The ability to manage and deliver projects and programmes
• Experience in environmental regulation and planning, especially water licensing, regulation, or sustainable abstraction
• Experience reviewing statutory plans
• Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships
• A track record of achieving results

As a dispersed team, you must be proactive and maintain effective communication. Development opportunities and training will be provided.

Additional Information
