We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Accredited Clinical Coder who is self-motivated and competent in accurately coding multiple complex specialties. The role supports high quality coded data for healthcare planning, reimbursement, management of services, statistical analysis, and research. The post requires a committed and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills, the ability to work to strict deadlines, and a strong attention to detail.
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours) based at Barnet Hospital.

Main duties and responsibilities
The Qualified Clinical Coding Officer is responsible for meeting essential trust requirements for statutory information and financial flows by abstracting and analysing complex and sensitive clinical information from a variety of source documents and translating this into coded form in line with National Clinical Coding Standards using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications.
Clinical coding targets are set in terms of completeness, timeliness, and accuracy. Other key responsibilities include assisting with clinical coding and workflow audits, representing the clinical coding department at multidisciplinary meetings, and providing advice and guidance to more junior staff in coding rules; identifying training needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- National Clinical Coding Qualification
- Educated to GCSE level including English and Maths
- Training completed in ICD-10/OPCS-4 coding to National Coding standard
Desirable
- GCSE or equivalent in Human Biology
- ECDL or computer proficiency certificate
Experience
- Essential: Proven experience as a trained clinical coder working in an NHS trust
Desirable
- Experience of delivering in-house training to trainee clinical coders
- Previous experience of using Medicode encoder
Knowledge
- High level of knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology terms
- Knowledge of clinical coding rules and conventions
- Planning and organisational skills to ensure departmental targets are met
