Salary: Depending on experience
Term: Permanent - Full Time
Your New Company:
We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Building Surveyor (RICS-qualified) with a passion for heritage and conservation to join our specialist team. If you’re driven by preserving historic buildings and managing complex restoration projects with autonomy and flexibility, this could be the perfect fit.
Your New Role:
You’ll play a key role in our Heritage & Conservation team, working across a diverse portfolio of listed and historic buildings. Your primary focus will be on preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse, always in line with statutory requirements and conservation best practices.
This is a hands-on role involving regular site visits, where you’ll manage everything from building repairs and defect investigations to dealing with planning permissions, liaising with local authorities, Historic England (or equivalent), and other key stakeholders.
Projects typically involve restoring properties damaged by insured perils, with values ranging from £50,000 to £5 million. Depending on the scale and complexity, you may work independently or alongside a wider team of building professionals.
When not on site, you’ll work remotely, managing your own schedule and reporting to our central team.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead projects through full survey and repair cycles
- Conduct site inspections and defect diagnosis
- Prepare technical reports and Schedules of Works
- Administer contracts and manage projects through to completion
- Ensure compliance with relevant conservation legislation (e.g. Planning [Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas] Act 1990)
- Support clients sensitively through the claims process—often in difficult or emotional circumstances
- Liaise with insurers, policyholders, contractors, planners, and conservation officers
The skills that will be developed once working:
We will provide all the Sedgwick specific training you need to thrive in this role

- Experience dealing with planning permissions, listed building consent, and relevant local authority processes
- Confident managing projects from inspection to delivery
- A full UK driving licence – regular site travel is required
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own workload remotely
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience using iPads or Apple-based software for site notes, photos, or reporting
