Purpose
HDR UK seeks an exceptional Chief Data Officer to provide visionary leadership at the forefront of data‑driven discovery. This senior role shapes and delivers HDR UK’s data strategy and approach to AI‑enabled innovation, ensuring that our infrastructure, technologies, and platforms meet evolving requirements and set the standard for excellence in health data science. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will define and drive a bold vision for how data can accelerate research, improve health, and realise HDR UK’s mission.
Main Responsibilities
- Data Strategy & AI: Define and lead HDR UK’s data strategy, ensuring alignment with UK‑wide health and research priorities, champion FAIR principles, and manage risk. Work across the Institute to position the UK at the forefront of trustworthy AI innovation.
- Data Science, Engineering & Technical Innovation: Lead the development and delivery of core data products, metadata catalogues, common data models, and support data standards and phenotype definitions. Advise on database optimisation, reproducible science, and enable advanced analytical methods including AI, machine learning, and causal inference.
- Ecosystem and Partnership Development: Engage with UK and international stakeholders—NHS organisations, regulators, data custodians, patient groups, research funders, and commercial partners—to foster collaboration, identify data challenges, and build trust through transparent governance and public engagement.
- Alignment to User Needs: Ensure that HDR UK’s data services respond to researcher and innovator needs, translating user requirements into specifications for delivery and improving data discoverability, quality, linkage, interoperability, and usability at national scale.
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead a multidisciplinary team of data architects, engineers, scientists, and programme leads; foster a high‑performance, inclusive culture and serve on the Senior Leadership Team to shape organisational strategy.
