Overview

Role involves conducting autism spectrum disorder (ASD) developmental histories and evaluations, ADHD assessments, and potentially ADOS assessments if trained. The clinician will assess children and young people aged 3–18 years and adults 18+, formulate diagnoses, provide feedback to families, and contribute to MDT planning and follow-up as needed. Reports must be high quality and delivered within 48 hours post-assessment, with admin support for formatting and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive ASD developmental histories using NICE guideline–compliant methods/tools for children and adults undergoing autism assessments.
  • Conduct ADHD assessments.
  • Opportunity to undertake ADOS assessments if ADOS-2 trained.
  • Assess children and young people aged 3–18 years and adults 18+.
  • Observe and engage clients during sessions with age-appropriate, compassionate questioning.
  • Review ADOS reports, developmental history, and collateral information from home, school, and observers within the same session.
  • Formulate a diagnosis, provide feedback to families in a kind and compassionate manner, including recommendations and signposting to resources.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) in planned clinics and manage follow-up sessions if needed.
  • Produce high-quality, detailed diagnostic reports within 48 hours post-assessment (administrative support available for formatting and quality control).
  • Request onward referrals as clinically necessary in line with local NHS Trust/ICB protocols.

Clinics

  • Up to four appointments per day, paid on a competitive per assessment tariff (self-employed, outside IR35).
  • Remote work with face-to-face availability in Canterbury and Basingstoke; other locations may be available depending on location.
  • Flexible working days Monday to Sunday, up to 40 hours per week.
  • Free CPD opportunities, training and peer-to-peer support.

What We’re Looking For

  • HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist.
  • Expertise and confidence in ASD and ADHD assessments for children, young people, and/or adults.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as Conners, ADI-R, DIVA-5, CAARS and QB testing.
  • Professional who embodies values of trust, integrity, commitment, and kindness.
  • Passionate about delivering clinical excellence.
  • Specialist interest in neurodiversity.
