You will be part of a key team of experts in coastal flood risk modelling, providing an essential part of the evidence base to support the Environment Agency’s Asset Management programme and supporting reducing the flood risk to people across the country.
You will be responsible for dealing with some of the most complex flood risk modelling challenges faced on England’s varied coastline. You will be a technical expert in coastal flood risk modelling, providing expert advice and offering technical solutions. You will champion the importance of coastal flood risk modelling evidence within the business. This role involves working with others to identify skills gaps and helping to drive improvements in the modelling capabilities of our teams. You will be mindful of our corporate priorities, programmes of work, and funding sources. Using these skills and information, you will regularly work with senior management to flag issues, create, share, and drive solutions. In this role, you will be a leading force for coastal flood risk modelling in the Environment Agency.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Team
The Coastal Flood Risk Modelling team sits within the wider Digital, Data and Evidence team. We are a national team who provide quality assurance, expert analysis and advice on coastal flood risk modelling for our flood and coastal risk management colleagues across the business. The team comprises modelling specialists who contribute to delivering critical evidence for determining potential impacts on coastal communities and for informing flood risk management decision making.
Experience / Skills Required
Expert technical leadership, knowledge, and skills relating to coastal flood risk modellingThe use of a variety of tools, such as the numerous coastal flood risk modelling packages used currently in the industryApplication and development of modelling technical standards and guidanceSupporting and responding to escalated issuesEffectively prioritising across a wide set of responsibilitiesExcellent communication skills, proactively engaging with colleagues and delivery partnersConstructively challenging the technical performance of colleagues and delivery partnersUsing technical knowledge to help influence at a strategic level, through explaining complex issues in a simple way that attracts and holds attentionSupporting, encouraging and developing the skills of technical colleagues

The successful candidate will be based out of their nearest Environment Agency office location and work in a hybrid manner of office and home based activity.
