Coastal Flood Risk Modelling Technical Advisor – 32110
As a Coastal Flood Risk Modelling Technical Advisor you will provide expert technical advice to help build a country more resilient to climate change. Your advice will be used by colleagues and partners to manage coastal flood risk at a community or national scale, considering the impacts of flooding and our dynamic coastline.
Responsibilities
Provide expert advice, both internal and external, on coastal flood risk modelling and the value of coastal evidence.
Build, run and interrogate wave transformation, wave overtopping and inundation models.
Use a variety of coastal modelling software and apply relevant methodologies and guidance.
Perform technical quality assurance to support a range of outcomes, including delivering the Asset Management programme.
Contribute to national coastal modelling research and development projects.
Apply continuous improvement techniques to improve existing ways of working.
Provide technical leadership and coach/mentor others.
Respond to incidents when required, making yourself available for incident response or business continuity support.
Qualifications
A comprehensive understanding of coastal processes and the importance of evidence in flood and coastal erosion risk management.
Experience building, running, interrogating and interpreting coastal flood risk models.
Familiarity with wave transformation, sea level, wave overtopping, breach and inundation modelling packages (e.g., EurOtop, SWAN, TUFLOW, MIKE, XBeach).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build relationships, influence and collaborate with stakeholders.
Strong project and programme prioritisation skills, managing your own workload and leading technical projects.
Mentoring and coaching experience.
