Remote with Travel to Schools on Occasion | UK-based is a requirement of the grant
All applicants must be based in the UK, according to grant requirements. If you are not UK-based, you will be automatically sent a rejection letter. Please do not apply if that is the case.
Start Date: August–September 2025
Contract: Fixed-term (15 months, with potential extension)
At Schologists, we’re developing Pebble — a UKRI-funded platform that blends personalised cognitive assessments, game-based interventions, and an AI therapist to help secondary students better understand and grow their minds.
We’re looking for a Cognitive Research Scientist to help shape and drive the scientific backbone of this work. You’ll be working directly with our founder to design high-quality tools, publish impactful research, and support ethical and school-facing operations.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to be at the intersection of cognition, education, and real-world innovation — translating research into tools that can actually change lives.
What You’ll Do:
- Write and develop research protocols, ethics submissions (through an independent REC), and publishable academic papers.
- Run and interpret statistical analyses — STATA preferred, though R can be discussed.
- Inform the creation of innovative cognitive assessment and intervention tasks grounded in current literature.
- Support the psychological modelling of our AI therapist and feedback systems.
- Work with schools to enable smooth data collection and feedback loops.
You’ll Need:
- A PhD (or equivalent experience) in cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, educational psychology, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of domain-specific cognitive functions (e.g. attention, working memory, planning, task switching).
- An understanding of near and far transfer in cognitive development and learning.
- Statistical confidence — particularly in STATA — for data cleaning, standardising scores, regression, and ANOVA.
- A fast-paced, collaborative, and reflective research style.
What Can Set You Apart:
- Deep familiarity with metacognition and cognitive remediation, especially in educational settings.
- Experience working with SEND learners or diverse student populations.
- A strong publication background, preferably in cognitive psychology.
- A passion for turning research into practical, scalable solutions — and being part of something that actually matters.
We’re primarily looking for a full-time team member, but we’re open to part-time arrangements (0.5 FTE or above) for more experienced applicants with relevant specialist knowledge.
We actively welcome candidates with lived experience of mental health challenges or neurodivergence. You’ll be joining a team that genuinely cares about what we build — and how we build it.
To apply, send your CV through LinkedIN and send a short cover letter sam@schologists.co.uk.
