A strong and resilient community energy sector is essential to achieving a just transition and meeting the devolved and UK Government\'s Net Zero targets.

We are recruiting a dedicated resource in Scotland to focus on delivering our Community Energy Strategy that supports our communities\' energy ambitions in Scotland.

SP Energy Network\'s Distribution business plan (RIIO-ED2) runs from 2023 to 2028 and outlines our vision for a large electricity network that supports Net Zero and serves more than 3.5m homes and businesses across Scotland, England and Wales. The plan includes a commitment to develop a small Community Energy Team which acts as a central point of contact for community anchor organisations and communities looking to develop local energy schemes.

The dedicated team provides relevant information, impartial technical advice, optioneering options and signposts to local support organisations, local energy planning activities and hands-on support through our connections process.

What you will be doing

  • Manage, co-ordinate and deliver SP Energy Networks Community Energy Strategy, updated annually and independently reviewed to reflect changes in the external environment.
  • Develop and continually review stakeholder and customer mapping across SP Distribution to ensure engagement activity is targeted and inclusive.
  • Create an annual Community Energy engagement plan, detailing how information is delivered and maintaining flexibility and innovation in approach.
  • Engage with a broad and inclusive range of stakeholders and local community groups to understand priorities and reflect them in strategy and delivery plans.
  • Work in partnership with local support organisations to deliver community energy awareness campaigns at scale and educational outreach.
  • Develop appropriate stakeholder forums, meetings and events to raise awareness of the Community Energy Strategy and its delivery.
  • Capture and record all Community Energy engagement activity within agreed corporate systems.
  • Develop engagement plans that support delivery of regulatory and business plan objectives and optimise return through incentives where applicable, integrating innovative solutions where appropriate.
  • Support the development of customer service and stakeholder engagement skills across the Distribution Business.
  • Mentor and train less experienced team members, graduates and trainees to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours.
  • Collaborate with other DNOs, the regulator and external parties to ensure a consistent UK approach to supporting communities with energy ambitions.
  • Coordinate with the Central Stakeholder & Communications team to continually improve stakeholder and customer satisfaction research, analysis and feedback.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure communities are fully supported in any interactions with SP Energy Networks.

What you will bring

  • Expert knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
  • Proven track record of effective stakeholder engagement and experience in devising and implementing engagement plans.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to determine optimal solutions.
  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which SPEN operates, with good knowledge of the Community Energy Sector.
  • Excellent IT and writing skills.
  • Strong skills in strategy development and implementation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement management skills demonstrated in a previous role.
  • Proven experience in a comparable managerial role.
  • Computer literacy – e.g. Microsoft Office suite.
