Overview

Perinatal mental health clinician required to join the Perinatal Mental Health Team. Applications welcomed from Mental Health Nurses and Occupational Therapists. The team delivers assessment, interventions and support for pregnant women and women in the postnatal period with severe and complex mental health needs.

You will join a multidisciplinary team with a patient-centred approach, extensive training opportunities, regular supervision and opportunities for career progression. The PMHT covers the Telford and Shropshire area and uses blended working options across MPFT facilities.

The service has received national recognition, including the Positive Practice in Mental Health (PPiMH) Award (2021) and recognitions in 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for managing a complex caseload, including specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning with the service user and carer, and evaluating treatment plans (Care Programme Approach and Single Assessment Process).
  • Participate in setting quality standards, auditing, monitoring and reviewing practice in line with current clinical guidance, practice and policy.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Trust procedures and NMC guidance.
  • Assess patients’ individual care needs; develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Deliver a range of interventions aligned with the care plan and Pathway guidance, including pharmacological and psychologically informed interventions.
  • Complete and contribute to robust risk assessments and risk management plans; promote positive risk taking where appropriate to improve quality of life and independence.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system, including verbal and written updates on patient condition.
  • Utilise agreed outcome measures to review intervention effectiveness as part of care planning and evaluation; contribute to service development and clinical governance at team level.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist
  • Post-registration experience with formal courses/training at diploma/degree level

Desirable

  • Non-medical Prescriber
  • Psychological intervention qualifications (e.g., EMDR, CBT, CBTp, Family Interventions, CAT, DBT)
  • Phlebotomy; Coaching; providing supervision
  • BSc in nursing/OT or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience with adults experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Experience with engaging populations with complex needs and perinatal mental health
  • Experience in assessment, planning, coordination and management of care
  • Experience in cross-disciplinary/multi-agency collaboration and CPA/SAP processes
  • Experience of working with women with perinatal mental health needs and in community settings

Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of Mental Health NICE Guidelines and CPA
  • Commitment to Equality and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Knowledge of statutory, independent and third-sector services for adults with mental ill health
  • Ability to assess, plan, and evaluate care using Recovery principles; risk assessment and management
  • Holistic assessment and multidisciplinary/inter-agency interventions
  • Ability to interpret HONOS; integrate assessment, care planning and reviews
  • Capability to engage hard-to-engage individuals; support treatment concordance
  • Understanding of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and DOLS
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative working skills; leadership and supervision capabilities

Desirable

  • Assessment tools and outcome measures such as GAD-7, PHQ-9, CAARMS, PANNS, SWEMWBS, and others

Location: Northgate Health Centre, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, WV16 4EN. Band 6, Salary £38,682–£46,580 per annum. Full-time with flexible and home/remote working available. Permanent contract.
