Position Overview The successful candidate will join the current team of 4 Electrophysiology Consultants in contributing towards the provision and development of the Electrophysiology service within the region. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre serves a population of 1.8m across the Lake District / South Cumbria and Lancashire. There are 2 EP Labs out of 5 available lab spaces providing a high volume of approximately 800 procedures performed annually pre‑Covid. The post holder will have experience and will be independent in performing both simple and complex electrophysiology procedures. The unit has all three mapping tools – Biosense Webster, Abbott and Boston Scientific. Available single‑shot technology includes Cryo and Laser Balloon Ablation. Experience and willingness to further develop skills will be supported. We value teaching and research. There are currently 3 EP Fellows, two of them post‑CCT from Greece. The successful candidate can contribute towards the weekly EP teaching and supervision of trainees. The cardiology department delivers a regional tertiary cardiology service, and the successful candidate will join the existing 21 consultant cardiologists in helping deliver a first‑class regional service. The post holder will also be expected to deliver general cardiology as consultant of the week on a rotational basis as well as weekend cover as part of a seven‑day consultant‑led service. Key Responsibilities
Perform independent simple and complex electrophysiology procedures; deliver approximately 800 procedures annually within the two EP labs. Contribute to weekly EP teaching and supervision of trainees, supporting EP Fellows. Provide general cardiology services as consultant of the week on a rotation, including weekend cover. Fulfil duties and responsibilities set out in the individual Job Plan, reviewed annually in line with core and additional SPA time for clinical governance, audit, CPD, appraisal, and mandatory training. Ensure compliance with medical education and training requirements, including 1.5 core SPA per week and evidence‑based allocation of additional SPA.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in independent EP procedures, with familiarity of mapping tools (Biosense Webster, Abbott, Boston Scientific) and single‑shot technologies (Cryo, Laser Balloon Ablation). Willingness to further develop EP skills. Background in cardiology, including general cardiology and EP, capable of working in a consultant‑led service. Medical qualification and readiness for occupational health clearance, including Hepatitis B screening and vaccination where required. Ability to work collaboratively with local managers and professional colleagues to manage services efficiently.
Additional Information All medical and dental staff are expected to comply with all Health and Safety policies and local and national employment procedures. The post holder should be prepared to handle clinical duties and manage any suspension or abolition of clinical sessions in accordance with Trust policy.
