Job Title: Contract Head of Finance

Location: Kent (Hybrid - occasional office visits)

Duration: Long-term, 3 days/week

About the Company: One of my engineering clients in Kent is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Finance to lead their financial operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team on a part-time basis, providing critical oversight and guidance to support ongoing growth and stability.

Role Overview

The Head of Finance will be responsible for managing the company’s financial health, ensuring robust accounting practices, and driving business insights to support strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will have a strong background in business and accounting, comfortable working within an ERP accounting platform environment (specific ERP experience is not required). This role offers a flexible 3-day workweek with occasional visits to the office.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Oversee the accounting function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely closure of financial periods.
• Manage and mentor a team of 2 accountants, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Analyse financial data to provide actionable insights and support business decision-making.
• Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial risk to safeguard company assets.
• Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards.
• Support the integration and utilization of the ERP accounting platform to optimize financial processes.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior finance or accounting role with a strong business acumen.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial management.
• Experience working within ERP accounting systems (specific platform knowledge not essential).
• Experience managing a small finance team (preferably 2 or more accountants).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
• Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to commit to a part-time schedule (3 days per week) with flexibility for occasional office visits.
