Overview
Environment Agency – Defra Group Fleet Services (DGFS) is hiring a Contract Officer to support the fleet transition to net zero. The role reports to the Fleet Manager (Contract Performance) and works with a national team of contract specialists to deliver key procurement milestones and drive tangible change.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a varied programme of purchase and service contracts on behalf of the Environment Agency and Defra Partners.
- Work with suppliers to reduce environmental footprint, maintain cost‑effective fleet performance and meet legal, health & safety responsibilities.
- Lead tender processes, including award of contracts, and collaborate with colleagues across the organisation.
- Support incident response and training activities, ensuring the team meets operational delivery targets.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication, organisational and influencing skills.
- Commercial acumen and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Forward‑thinking approach with the ability to identify opportunities and risks.
- Experience of procurement processes within Defra desirable.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Location & working patterns
Location is flexible – you may be required to work in EA offices, attend national meetings and, where necessary, undertake overnight stays. Remote working and management arrangements are acceptable. The post is Full Time but alternative work patterns can be considered.
