We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Conventional Health and Safety Lead.
Role Purpose:
The Conventional Health and Safety Engineering Lead will play a pivotal role within the Engineering Directorate, working closely with engineering design teams to ensure that the RR SMR Power Station is designed and developed in a way that reduces conventional safety risks to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). This role will champion conventional health and safety across the engineering lifecycle, embedding best practices and legislative compliance into the design process.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Risk Management:
Lead the identification, assessment, and management of conventional safety risks across the RR SMR power station. Maintain and manage the conventional design risk register.Safety Advocacy:
Act as the primary advocate for conventional health and safety within the Engineering Directorate, promoting a culture of safety-first design thinking.Collaboration & Integration:
Work collaboratively with the Conventional Health and Safety team within Safety and Regulatory Affairs to develop and implement effective health and safety arrangements.Guidance & Tools Development:
Develop practical guidance, tools, and assessment frameworks to support engineering teams in applying conventional safety principles throughout the design process.Design Influence:
Participate in design and decision reviews, providing expert input to eliminate or mitigate identified risks and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and good practice.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree-qualified in Engineering, Health and Safety, or a related discipline.
- Chartered status (e.g., CEng, CMIOSH) or working towards it is desirable.
- Proven experience in design safety or engineering risk management within a complex, regulated industry (e.g., nuclear, energy, infrastructure).
- Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and ALARP principles.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
