Corporate Counsel – Elsevier Join us as a Corporate Counsel in our Legal Department, based in London. About the Role Our Commercial Sales Legal Counsel will partner with Elsevier Academic, Government, and Corporate Sales teams in North America, with occasional support to Latin America. You will provide legal support, guidance, and training, working closely with contract managers and sales support teams while reporting to the General Counsel EMEA APAC LA. Legal support focuses on commercial transactions directly with customers and involves transaction matters, contract negotiation and drafting, and strategic advice. Responsibilities
Support transactional matters, including legal advice, contract negotiation, and drafting. Deliver best‑practice legal services aligned with the business’s strategic drivers to ensure significant impact. Build relationships to become the trusted business partner, managing stakeholder engagement. Model and endorse team operating principles such as teamwork, collaboration, adaptability to an international environment, and open communication.
Requirements
7–10+ years of in‑house legal experience, preferably with prior law‑firm experience. Experience in an international environment and with U.S. or North‑American customers. Strong academic credentials and extensive experience in providing legal advice and support to businesses. Technical knowledge of IP, licensing, and software‑as‑a‑service contracts, and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical matters. Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex legal and commercial issues clearly and concisely for the business. Collaborative team player who demonstrates appropriate leadership qualities. Fluent in Spanish and English; proficiency in Portuguese is a plus.
