About you and the role

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) will support Enstar in fulfilling Enstar’s statutory obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other Data Protection obligations across Enstar’s jurisdictions.

What you will be doing

  • Manage the relationships with information regulators as required;
  • Inform and advise stakeholders on data protection laws, including monitoring developments and their applicability and impact on Enstar;
  • Participate in Enstar’s governance board(s), committees and other relevant working groups as required;
  • Work closely with the Group CRO to develop the Data Protection strategy and ensure it is aligned with Enstar’s frameworks and procedures;
  • Monitor the Group’s data privacy control framework(s) across Enstar’s global jurisdictions;
  • Maintain Enstar’s Group data protection policies and procedures;
  • Provide advice on the conduct and monitoring of Data Privacy Impact Assessments (“DPIAs”);
  • Advise on data incidents and data breach notifications and ensure compliance with relevant requirements;
  • Act as a contact point for requests from individuals regarding processing of their personal data and exercising of their rights under GDPR and other data regulations;
  • Support information security, compliance and internal audit reviews;
  • Promote Data Protection awareness, including developing data privacy training annually and taking action to maximise completion across the Group;
  • Monitor compliance with data privacy legislation, including:
    • accuracy and completeness of Register of Processing Activities (“RoPA”);
    • evaluation of activities documented in the RoPA; and
    • informing, advising and issuing recommendations to data controllers and process owners;

What you will bring

  • 5+ relevant years experience within a Data Protection compliance field;
  • Proven track record in leading data protection, privacy and/or information risk issues for global business across multiple jurisdictions;
  • Professional qualification within the Data Protection field desirable;
  • A subject matter expert with a background in Legal, Risk & Compliance, IT Security/InfoSec or Audit preferred;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of data privacy legislation in the UK and EU essential, with additional knowledge of Bermuda or US desirable/advantageous;
  • Experience in Insurance or Financial Services desirable, not essential;
  • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches;
  • Some knowledge of cybersecurity risks, PCI DSS and other information security standards; and
  • Ability to make informed decisions regarding data privacy risks and to prioritise resources accordingly to mitigate such risks;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Data Protection within global organisations;
  • The ability to risk assess and critically develop a Compliance Assurance Programme (“CAP”) that is proportionate to monitor and report on the level of mitigation of data protection risk;
  • The ability to keep abreast of a changing regulatory landscape and accordingly adapt a CAP to address new data privacy regulations;
  • London Market compliance and demonstrable Lloyd’s expertise preferred, such as previous experience as a compliance officer in a mature compliance function;
  • Track record in developing and implementing assurance programs across a multi‑jurisdictional organisation;
  • Strong board reporting, presentation skills and c‑suite stakeholder management experience; and
  • Team leadership, coaching and performance management skills are essential.

  • Ability to find practical and pragmatic solutions to data issues;
  • Understands the issues and challenges of the business;
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines;
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and their potential social, reputational and economic impacts;
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks and projects;
  • Good personal communication skills; capable of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management;
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain a high degree of confidentiality, respect, trust and credibility at all levels.
