Overview

Managing Director | Senior Headhunter specialising in Technology and Quant Trading at Radley James

Top start-up quant fund focusing on Long/Short Equities are looking to hire a talented Data Scientist to join their inaugural team.

This is a high impact, collaborative role whereby the successful hire’s primary duty will be to develop insights and build predictive models that directly influence investment decisions and portfolio performance. You will work at the intersection of the investment team and the firm’s primary data engineer, originating and analyzing data sources, developing models to forecast company KPIs, and structuring outputs that feed directly into the investment process.

What you’ll do

  • Originate and evaluate novel, real-world data sources (e.g. supply chain, geospatial, IoT, pricing feeds, web activity) to generate differentiated insights into Industrials companies.
  • Build predictive models for key company KPIs (revenues, margins, volumes, utilization, pricing, etc.) using advanced statistical and machine learning techniques.
  • Work alongside the data engineer to structure and integrate models into a long-term data platform.
  • Apply AI concepts (e.g., knowledge graphs, embeddings, advanced NLP) to structure the firms data lake and surface relationships across companies, sectors, and themes.
  • Ensure outputs are robust: validated, backtested, reproducible, and built to last.

What we’re looking for

  • A very strong quantitative background (Math, Applied Math, Physics, Theoretical Physics, Computer Science, or related fields). MSc/PhD a plus but not required.
  • 2–6 years of experience applying advanced analytics or ML to real-world data, ideally in finance, fintech, or predictive modelling contexts (e.g., demand forecasting, supply chain, industrial data).
  • Demonstrated ability to source and leverage new datasets, not just work with standard financials.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn; PyTorch/TensorFlow a plus).
  • Solid grounding in time series and regression modelling.
  • SQL proficiency and experience with large, messy datasets.
  • Ability to collaborate closely, communicate clearly, and work across disciplines with investors and engineers.
  • Prior experience in a hedge fund, asset manager, or alternative-data environment.
