Location: Fleet/hybrid - 2 days per week in the office
Salary/Rate: Up to £447 per day INSIDE IR35

We have an exciting opportunity now available with one of our sector-leading financial services clients! They are currently looking for a skilled Database Technical Specialist to join their team for a contract until the end of 2026.

Responsibilities/Objectives

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Technical Specialist to manage and optimize our enterprise database environments. This role is responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, scalability, and security of critical database systems across the organization. You will provide deep technical expertise in database architecture, administration, and engineering, supporting both on-premises and cloud-based platforms. The role involves working closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and security specialists to deliver robust and resilient data solutions.

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-grade database solutions (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, availability, and capacity.
  • Manage database security, access controls, and compliance with data governance policies.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Collaborate with development teams to support data modeling, query optimization, and application integration.
  • Automate routine database tasks using scripting and orchestration tools.
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Support cloud database services (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) and hybrid architectures.
  • Maintain documentation of database configurations, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in audits and ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance requirements.

Required Skills/Experience

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Expertise in one or more major RDBMS platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., clustering, replication, log shipping).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
  • Familiarity with cloud database services and migration strategies.
  • Understanding of data security, encryption, and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Desirable Skills/Experience

Although not essential, the following skills are desired by the client:

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or AWS Certified Database - Specialty.
  • Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
  • Exposure to NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and data warehousing solutions.
