We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Development Manager to lead the delivery of transformative Access for All (AFA) schemes — making stations safer, more accessible, and welcoming for everyone. Overview

As Development Manager you will be responsible for successful development of a sub-package of pre-construction works for both Network Rail and Octavius Infrastructure. You will develop schemes through design and other pre-construction activities, to hand over to our Delivery teams. This entails working closely with customers, stakeholders, design partners, suppliers and delivery teams to create solutions that delight our customers, are of a high quality, within the financial targets set. You will lead by example by engendering the collaborative culture throughout the project team, including suppliers and customers, ensuring that everyone works towards our common vision of a vibrant delivery mechanism that delivers on promises, that has safety at its core.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on the development of sub-packages of pre-construction works for Network Rail and Octavius Infrastructure; drive schemes through design and pre-construction activities to hand over to Delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, design partners, suppliers and delivery teams to create high-quality solutions within financial targets.
  • Foster a collaborative project culture with emphasis on safety and the project vision.

About You

  • Interfacing with Design Contractors and the Client, understanding Engineering Remits, developing and driving a design Programme.
  • Lead on increasing the use of BIM, technology and IT to improve efficiency.
  • Embrace Lean personally and within your team as a means of driving and seeking improvements in all activities.
  • Identifying new thinking and innovation through collaboration on project delivery and implementing it successfully.
  • Understanding and implementing actions from our ‘lessons learnt’ meetings. Ensuring Lesson Learnt are undertaken for all Stage 1 contracts upon completion, and ideally at regular intervals through the project lifecycle; actively participate in Stage 2.

You’ll Bring

  • An Engineering background with Design Management experience. Pricing & estimating knowledge is a bonus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good level of NEC3 knowledge and ability to administer the contract.
  • Exceptional people management with the ability to influence and mentor to motivate employees to achieve high standards of compliance.
  • Highly organised, with excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented with a positive outlook.
  • Technically savvy, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Experience managing projects or programmes and working with other departments to achieve deliverables.
  • Experience and knowledge of construction industry – awareness of current techniques.
  • Has managed design programmes and been responsible for their delivery in terms of quality, design assurance, commercial performance, and meeting programme constraints.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail processes and assurance procedures would be ideal but not essential
  • Detailed understanding of safety leadership from a policy and behavioural perspective.
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related field (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Has achieved or aspires to professional membership with a recognised body (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers) and has a plan to achieve such status.
