We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this roleSalary: NegotiableWhat You’ll Be DoingLead the delivery of the propulsion system design for the SSNA programme, ensuring the timely production of key engineering deliverables and technical specificationsEnsure all project outputs meet customer requirements and contractual commitments regarding cost, quality, and scheduleEmbed critical programme objectives – such as cost efficiency, schedule adherence, and system availability – into the propulsion plant designFoster effective collaboration with key stakeholders across BAE Systems, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and major suppliersOversee formal reviews and provide approval for engineering outputs to ensure compliance with technical and quality standardsSupport the development, wellbeing, and performance of the engineering team, while contributing to the long-term capability growth of the propulsion disciplineCollaborate closely with the wider project delivery team and take ownership of managing key equipment sub-contracts to ensure successful deliveryYour Skills And ExperiencesA degree (or equivalent qualification / experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related disciplineChartered Engineer status or equivalent professional experienceDemonstrated leadership capabilities, with a strong track record of effective team management and delivery in a technical environmentStrong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across a range of internal and external stakeholdersBenefitsAs well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.The Mechanical Propulsion TeamWe have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager – Mechanical (Propulsion) to join our team in Barrow-in-Furness, with the potential for future hybrid working arrangements. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and development of the propulsion plant for the Royal Navy’s next-generation SSNA submarine, overseeing all major systems and equipment, as well as specifying and supporting the procurement of propulsion components. This is a rare opportunity to influence a major defence programme from its early design stages, while also playing a key role in shaping and developing a high-performing engineering team.
