Job Description Summary

The ESG (Environmental Social Governance) Risk & Control Senior Manager will report to the Head of ESG Reporting Governance, Risk, and Controls and will support Novartis in driving sustainable growth by providing credible strategic and operational ESG non-financial information.

The role is responsible for supporting the assessment, design, and implementation of the Global ESG reporting control framework and will collaborate cross-functionally. It will specifically support aligning the ESG control framework with the Global Finance control framework, including integration with the Novartis 3LOD model, in collaboration with the Financial Controls and Compliance team.

This role is based in the UK on a remote working contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor the internal control framework over ESG reporting to ensure process controls are adequately designed to manage all identified risks.
  2. Support the enhancement of the ESG reporting control framework, including reporting process controls.
  3. Maintain the accuracy of the ESG reporting RACM and RACI.
  4. Drive process deep-dives to identify control gaps, oversee solutions to enhance internal controls assurance.
  5. Prepare risk monitoring communications and engage with relevant stakeholders to update on risks and controls.
  6. Support assurance readiness and develop a roadmap to reasonable assurance, including management with third-party assurance providers.
  7. Support process/system control improvements, automation, and standardization within the ESG reporting framework.
  8. Assess the impact of process changes on controls and risks, implementing mitigating actions as needed.
  9. Support control owners and operators in updating documentation, self-assessment, and testing as part of the Global Risk & Control Framework.
  10. Model an inclusive, proactive, respectful, change-agile, collaborative, innovative, and results-driven management style with a focus on customer service.

Essential Requirements:

  1. Experience in financial or non-financial reporting control frameworks assessment, design, or implementation.
  2. Degree in Business and Economics or equivalent.
  3. Proficient in spoken and written English.
  4. Ability to collaborate across functions and departments.
  5. Project management and change management skills.
  6. Experience working independently and in international teams.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  8. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have:

  1. Experience supporting ESG report preparation, audit, assurance, or control.
  2. Knowledge of ESG reporting and regulations.
  3. Experience supporting the operation and/or design of reporting 3LOD.
  4. Experience with SOX-compliant control frameworks.
