Position Summary

This pivotal role within Global Technical Services (GTS) provides strategic leadership for the Global Facilities Operations (GFO) team overseeing a diverse portfolio of R&D, Product Development, Corporate Headquarters and Commercial offices in North America, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Switzerland. The successful candidate will lead a highly motivated GFO Leadership Team focused on delivering safe, effective and strategically aligned Facilities Services tailored to meet key stakeholder needs. The role emphasizes empowering teams, fostering innovation and building trust through safe, efficient, and sustainable facilities, with continuous performance optimization and exceptional user experience delivery. Operating within a matrixed organization, the GFO Lead will coordinate with Global Capital Services and Solutions (CSS), Corporate Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS), Business Development and Operational Excellence, along with other Enabling Business Partners to develop and deliver enterprise-wide solutions. The role also advances sustainability programs globally and is responsible for developing, delivering and governing the global Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) service delivery model across a broad scope to a diverse site portfolio. As a member of the GTS Leadership Team, the Exec. Director GFO will collaborate with peers to manage a $700M+ OpEx P&L and deliver a long-term CapEx strategic plan based on asset life cycle management. The leader will create programs to attract, develop and retain future GTS Leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic development of Facilities Services for 22 locations in North America, United Kingdom, & Europe
  • Build a vision for the organizational culture through amenities and services delivered to site occupants. Support senior leadership in strategies for growth and dynamic office/research needs for R&ED, GDD, PD, GPDO, GPS and Enabling Function departments.
  • Collaborate with Global CSS and Corporate Real Estate/Workplace Services on determining future space requirements versus current capacities as part of site and regional Master Planning. Identify innovative solutions to optimize square footage, including leading site divestiture efforts or supporting new business development integration activities.
  • Champion the use of innovative digital tools and technologies to elevate operational excellence in the delivery, management, and monitoring of Facilities Services. Implement Sustainability programs across the global footprint in partnership with Corporate EHSS.
  • Develop internal and external capabilities to drive efficient performance and elevate GFO value proposition. Refine the GFO KPI Dashboard to reflect priorities and transformation areas.
  • Collaborate with site Leadership Teams to strengthen relations with local authorities and communicate with the local community to project a positive image of the company.
  • Develop site-level Capital Strategic Plans with Global CSS and key stakeholders to meet future requirements and business needs. Prioritize master planning initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Develop, with SS&P (Global Procurement), Operations, Legal and Finance, the short and long-term strategies for the Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) Delivery Model globally. Ensure execution to enable the IFM Model across all in-scope services.
  • Develop and implement global IFM strategies to fulfill service requirements at global, regional, or site levels.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration with the IFM Service Provider across GTS sites and non-GTS facilities, covering services from soft services to Facilities Maintenance, Security, and Laboratory Services.

General & Leadership

  • Lead with a global mindset to deliver safe, effective Facilities and EHS Services that support patient care.
  • Model an organizational culture based on respect, collaboration, integrity, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with stakeholders to improve customer service and adopt industry-best practices.
  • Influence enterprise-wide decisions through oversight of amenities, OpEx and CapEx, and collaboration with People and Business Resource Groups; be willing to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director Global Capital Project Engineering to ensure successful capital investments across the site portfolio.
  • Drive clear, efficient communications with site leadership and BMS leadership at headquarters sites.
  • Own the GFO $700M+ OpEx budget and partner with the GTS Leadership Team to manage within +/- 5%.
  • Ensure facilities meet government regulations and EHSS standards and collaborate on sustainability initiatives, including water/energy savings and carbon neutrality goals.
  • Support the broader commitment to reach net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
  • Promote safe practices and verify EHSS standards are implemented and followed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; MBA preferred
  • 15+ years’ related experience in pharmaceutical engineering or facilities operations, with 10+ years of managerial experience
  • Experience developing and implementing Facilities Management policies and programs with an enterprise mindset
  • Strong budget forecasting experience for maintenance and operations using industry-standard financial tools
  • Deep knowledge of facilities technologies and infrastructure systems (HVAC, process, automation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, EPA regulatory requirements; GMP and FDA knowledge desired
  • Experience managing a diverse workforce and/or outsourced relationships in a matrix environment
  • Experience in Integrated Facilities Management service delivery with performance incentives
  • Ability to lead a flexible, multitasking team to achieve objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; RCA understanding for continuous improvement
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; project management experience or OpEx Yellow Belt preferred
  • Facilitation skills in cross-functional teams; strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Strategic thinker capable of independent work; knowledge of Facilities Management systems (BAS, CMMS, CAFM) and enterprise systems (SAP, Ariba)
  • Ability to interface appropriately with regulatory authorities
  • Primary location is Central New Jersey; position may be based at other major BMS sites (Cambridge, San Francisco, San Diego, Europe)

Working Conditions

Up to 30% travel domestically and internationally for site visits, leadership meetings and strategic activities.

Compensation Overview

$278,640 - $337,644

The starting compensation range for full-time employees is listed above. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available. Final compensation is determined based on experience.
