About the Role
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected legal practice with deep roots in the West Midlands. Founded over 70 years ago, the firm has built a trusted reputation for delivering exceptional legal services and nurturing long-term client relationships.The successful candidate will join a thriving Private Client & Family team, managing a busy caseload of privately funded family matters. This role offers genuine scope for professional growth and leadership, with opportunities to take on increased responsibility, mentor junior team members, and play an active role in the continued development of the department.You will provide expert advice and representation across all areas of family law, including divorce, cohabitation disputes, children matters, separation, and financial settlements. This is a client-focused position, ideal for a motivated individual who delivers a high standard of service both in and out of court while striving for excellence in every aspect of their practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage your own caseload of private-client family law matters, including but not limited to:
- Divorce, dissolution, and separation agreements
- Cohabitation disputes and pre/post-nup agreements
- Financial remedy proceedings post-relationship breakdown
- Children Act disputes (residence, contact, welfare) and related court work
- Provide clear, commercial, empathetic legal advice to clients, maintaining high standards of communication both verbally and in writing
- Advocate on behalf of clients at hearings, mediations and other dispute resolution forums as required
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff and experts to progress matters efficiently and effectively
- Maintain a consistent billing and performance record, meeting agreed targets whilst ensuring quality and client satisfaction
- Keep abreast of developments in family law, ensuring your advice is up to date and technically proficient
- Participate in team meetings, contribute to process improvement, and support the growth of the team and firm
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 3 years' PQE in family law/private-client work (minimum experience level)
- Proven experience handling predominantly privately funded family law matters
- Strong technical ability and working knowledge of family law principles and practice
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with a genuinely client-focused approach
- A pro-active team player who is able to work on own initiative, take ownership of files and deliver results
- A track record of consistent billing and performance within a private family law context
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, with good organisational skills and attention to detail
