Overview

The Northumberland Family Time (Contact) Service supervises family time for children and families across the county of Northumberland. The role helps support families to spend quality time with each other when they cannot live together. We work with very vulnerable children and so we must ensure we maintain professional relationships whilst managing complex family needs and behaviours. A Family Time Worker will be allocated a family and remain within them for the duration of the session, during which they will observe and record the interactions and parenting, provide advice (if requested) and only intervene to ensure the safety of a child/young person.

We supervise family time within our dedicated venues and the local community. The main office base is in Ashington; however staff will work across the whole county of Northumberland adopting agile and flexible working.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and record interactions and parenting during family time sessions.
  • Provide advice to families if requested.
  • Only intervene to ensure the safety of a child/young person.
  • Remain allocated to a family for the duration of the session and maintain professional relationships with vulnerable children and families.

Qualifications

  • A minimum NVQ 3 in working with children and families or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of direct work with children, their families and carers in a statutory or voluntary agency which provides services to vulnerable children and their families.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends as needed to provide support to families at suitable times (will involve working until after 6 pm most evenings).
  • Have access to a vehicle and a driving licence.
