About the role
The role is pivotal in providing strategic financial insight and support to senior stakeholders, enabling informed decision‑making and driving sustainable business performance in the University. It involves professional leadership in all aspects of University‑wide financial management to inform fact‑based decision making.
Job Responsibilities
- Build and maintain effective business partnering relationships across all departments within the assigned area of remit, and act as trusted advisor to the leadership team.
- Work in partnership with stakeholders to develop capital and revenue project budgets, collate and prioritise resource needs, and align projects with Brunel’s strategic objectives.
- Provide high‑quality financial advice to stakeholders and executive senior management to enable better financial management of resources.
- Ensure a culture of customer‑focused service delivery across all aspects of the Finance department’s provision.
- Provide advice and work collaboratively across the Finance function to develop shared insights, priorities, and ideas.
- Pro‑actively manage and develop the management accountant supporting the portfolio (if applicable).
- Communicate effectively with direct reports to ensure understanding of goals, expectations and timely delivery of tasks.
Ideal Candidate
- Qualified accountant with a sound academic background and logical career progression.
- Strong business partnering experience with a proven track record in a similar sized organisation.
- Experience in higher education or not‑for‑profit sector (desirable).
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to develop effective working relationships with a diverse stakeholder group.
- High energy and ability to energise and influence a wide spectrum of people, including senior financial and operational professionals.
- Advanced proficiency in financial systems – Excel (essential), Power BI (desirable), Adaptive Planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An enquiring mind with confidence to ask questions and challenge the status quo.
- Hybrid working – required to be on campus at least 3 days per week, up to 2 days per week working from home.
