OverviewThe University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest in the country, serving a population of around three million people across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. We host highly regarded care and teaching facilities and act as a Major Trauma Centre for North Midlands and North Wales. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Finance Business Partner to join the financial management team, supporting one of the Care Groups with day-to-day financial management duties. You will report to the Senior Finance Business Partner, work closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues and the wider finance team to drive positive outcomes. Successful candidates will hold a relevant professional accounting qualification and have experience in a financial management environment, along with familiarity with financial accounting systems and NHS experience being advantageous. Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines are essential.
Main duties / Responsibilities
Liaise with departmental managers, Clinical Business Unit managers and Care Group managers to set Care Group budgets within Trust-wide parameters and review these in line with Trust SFIs and other policies.
Create and interpret monthly financial reports to provide managers with accurate information for decision making.
Support budget holders in analysis, maintenance and control of budgets (including cost improvement schemes), ensuring new appointments/developments are within agreed establishment with recurrent finances identified; proactively investigate budget variances.
Produce monthly reports for the Care Group including forecast information for income and expenditure.
Ensure monthly financial reporting reflects known information about a budget at that point in time (e.g., accruals, stock checks, in-year savings or changes in service delivery).
Qualifications and Experience
Essential: Qualified in a relevant accountancy qualification (e.g., Level 7 — CIMA, ACCA, etc.).
Essential: Recent, sufficient and relevant experience within a finance environment in a large, complex organisation; strong understanding of accounting principles including variance analysis and reporting, accruals and provisions, forecasting, budgeting and financial planning, and financial modelling.
Desirable: NHS finance experience and knowledge/understanding of the NHS finance regime; experience working with clinical activity information.
Essential: Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; ability to communicate with a wide range of people at all levels.
