Salary (Grade 7) - £45,767 per annum (this is the full time salary and will be prorated down should less than 37.5 hours be offered)
Hours: 30 - 37.5 hours per week - permanent
Hybrid working available (minimum of 2 days per week required in the office)
Location: National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Our epic story is of the Royal Navy, and its impact on Britain and the world. Here you can come aboard the most famous ships, planes, and submarines of the Royal Navy, experience them through those who served on them, and be truly captivated by the thousands of unique, emotional, and sometimes quirky stories that have shaped the Royal Navy into what it proudly stands for today.
Our vision is to be the world’s most inspiring Naval Museum, linking Navy to Nation. You are pivotal in us achieving our vision, and to support this we embrace diversity and want everyone to feel valued and have a sense of belonging.
This is a great opportunity to join the team:
Reporting to the Financial Controller, and working alongside the existing two Finance Business Partners, you will become an integral member of the Finance Reporting team which is responsible for providing expert financial advice, strategic support and constructive challenge to business budget holders, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective financial planning, and supporting wider team members and budget holders in driving commercial performance and financial sustainability in the delivery of our strategic objectives.
More specifically, you will act as the lead financial support for designated business areas, particularly in delivery of projects and commercial activities. This will include, in its simplest form, supporting budget holders in the development of robust business plans, setting budgets, monitoring and recording activity, preparation of month-end reports, commentaries and reporting packs and will require you to work closely with, and report directly to, budget holders and the Executive. Furthermore, you will represent the Finance and Resources directorate at key meetings with Trustees and external stakeholders.
What you can bring:
- Knowledge and skills: Fully qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA) with evidence of Continuous Professional Development
- Tech fluency: Advanced Excel, solid MS Office skills; experience with BI tools or dashboarding platforms is a plus
- Excellent collaborator: be able to present complex financial information for Trustees and staff at various levels in an accessible way, draw insights, challenge constructively and make recommendations.
- Comfortable building models from scratch: interrogating large datasets and spotting the story behind the figures to provide ad hoc financial modelling and scenario analysis to underpin projects across the National Museum.
- Solution-driven mindset: this is essential, as you will be influencing business planning through sound financial advice.
- Champion improving business processes: Streamline how we work, spot process pain points and lead optimisation initiatives that save time and money
- Able to work autonomously: also contributing to a busy and highly professional finance team.
What we offer:
- The opportunity to be part of a friendly and diverse workplace within a unique heritage environment.
- Group pension plan with Royal London (6% employer contributions, 2% employee contributions and death in service benefit).
- Free onsite parking (subject to security clearance).
- 25 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays) pro rata for part time employees, increasing to 30 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays) after 5 years’ service, pro rata for part time employees, with the option to purchase additional annual leave.
- Enhanced maternity/adoption and paternity pay.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Free admission to other national museums and attractions within the reciprocal agreement.
- Discounts at our shops and cafes.
- Free and discounted tickets for family and friends.
- A range of other benefits including cycle to work.
- Paid reservist leave.
We want you to succeed and showcase your skills and experiences, so if you are invited to interview, we will share our interview questions with you ahead of time. If you would like to have an informal discussion regarding the role, or ask any questions, please contact Recruitment on email recruitment@nmrn.org.uk.
All applicants are asked to apply via https://jobs.nmrn.org.uk/ by midnight on Thursday 27th November. The selection processes will be held on site in Portsmouth shortly after.
If you require reasonable adjustments to be made to the application process because of a disability, please contact the People team on recruitment@nmrn.org.uk for support.
This post requires a DBS check as a requirement of working on the naval base, as well as the right to work in the UK. Please note we cannot currently sponsor work visas.
