Overview

As financial policy and governance manager, a new role within the Finance Directorate, you play a significant role in impacting Crown Prosecution Service financial policy and governance. You drive continuous improvement and support our strategic aims. You support the development and maintenance of a robust financial policy and governance framework, aligning with government best practices, and enhancing financial control and accountability across the organisation.

You collaborate with colleagues across the Crown Prosecution Service, providing expert advice and guidance on financial policies. Your role involves managing an effective service for handling queries and requests for advice and training, driving continuous improvement in financial policy and governance, and supporting accounting officers and budget holders. You stay up to date with internal and external changes, translating them into updated policies, and strengthening the Finance Directorate’s influence on financial decision making and organisational policies.

The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. You must be aged 16 before starting in this role. The start date is expected to be 8-12 weeks after the application deadline.

Responsibilities

  • You maintain an up-to-date library of financial policies aligned with regulations and guidance.
  • You stay updated with changes in technology, environment, and economy, and adapt frameworks accordingly.
  • You collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, update, and maintain accessible policies.
  • You manage a service to increase policy awareness and strengthen financial controls.
  • You identify policy improvements with stakeholders and ensure team aims are met.
  • Your efforts will drive continuous improvement in financial policy and governance, supporting accounting officers and budget holders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex and technical policies into easy-to-understand guidance.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and manage the development and maintenance of a range of policies and materials.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and technology to achieve efficiency through digital working and improve working practices and systems.
  • Desirable: ability to analyse and interpret data to inform policy development and decision-making; ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders; ability to identify issues and develop solutions to improve financial policy and governance; ability to lead and manage a small team; experience in developing and maintaining financial policies aligned with external regulations and cross-government guidance; knowledge of financial governance frameworks; experience delivering training to build staff capability in financial policy; experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders; experience in managing and implementing changes to financial policy and governance frameworks.

Other information

This is a full-time post. We consider flexible, part-time working and job-share options where operational needs allow. Hybrid working is available with requirement to spend at least 40% of contracted hours at court or official workplace, depending on business need.
