Job Description

There has never been a more exciting, challenging and exhilarating time to be in fleet asset management. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of an amazing team that will lead and manage the business through a period of transition, delivering real change in the way we work and making a genuine contribution to ensure our fleet is financially sustainable, meets government emission targets and our eMission plan, while maintaining a fleet that is operationally effective and incident ready.

At the Environment Agency we aspire for inclusivity to thrive in our workforce. We embrace equal opportunities and flexible work arrangements, ensuring everyone can contribute and succeed.

We need a motivated and driven self-starter, with excellent influencing and people skills and a hunger for a new challenge. If that is you then we would love your help in transforming the way we manage our assets and optimise our fleet within a tightening financial framework.

You’ll be involved with the operational management of our fleet and fleet services, working with suppliers, developing changes to policy, engaging with leaders and overseeing an effective provision service. The role is a mix of strategic and reactive work, exposing you to senior leaders across the organisation and will require quick and rational responses. You’ll be fine with that.

The ability to effectively communicate and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders and partners is important to:

The team

The Fleet Team (Defra Group Fleet Services or DGFS) are part of Corporate and National Services within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance directorate of the Environment Agency. DGFS are responsible for ensuring we operate the safest, greenest, most cost effective fleet assets across the Defra group. This involves identifying and assessing innovative new assets, letting contracts and managing supplier performance, analysing and reporting on fleet data and responding to fleet enquiries.

Experience/skills Required

You must have at least 2 years' experience of working in a fleet management capacity or relevant operational management roles. You will need line management experience and a clean driving licence. A working familiarity with the type of assets we operate and mobility services we facilitate is essential.

You’ll need influencing skills, resilience, adaptability and a capability to communicate well and build solid relationships with colleagues (internally and externally). Displaying a natural flair and strength in collaboration to deliver better outcomes for people and the environment is essential.

You will need to demonstrate a track record of achieving results using reliable problem-solving abilities. An innovative and adaptive approach is an integral element of being successful in the post.

You’ll be passionate about your personal development and that of others. A positive role model who creates an inclusive, caring and trusting culture which supports people to perform their best.

Contact and additional information

As part of a national team the location is flexible. You may be required to work in EA offices and attend national meetings, possibly with some overnight stays. You'll understand and be comfortable with the challenges of remote working and management.

The post is Full Time but requests for other work patterns will be considered.

We will be running a virtual candidate briefing session for those interested in applying for the role on Monday 4th August at 1pm. Invitations can be acquired by emailing: matt.dawkins@environment-agency.gov.uk.
