Overview

Flood and Coastal Risk Management - Advisor - Natural Flood Management (NFM). This permanent role supports delivering and upscaling NFM across England, contributing to a £25 million NFM Programme through project tracking, grant management, and secretariat support. The role may involve coordinating the NFM Community of Practice and leading specific workstreams such as environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, or asset management. The role involves hybrid working with some travel and overnight stays. Responding to incidents is a central part of the role, with an incident remit that may attract additional payment and related training and workplace adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery and upscaling of Natural Flood Management across England as part of the £25 million NFM Programme.
  • Manage project tracking and grant management; provide secretariat support for the programme.
  • Mainstream innovative NFM approaches trialled through the programme into the wider FCERM investment portfolio.
  • Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Lead specific workstreams with initiative and independence (e.g., environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, asset management).
  • Travel as required; work in a hybrid environment.
  • Fulfill an incident response role and participate in business continuity during incidents, with appropriate training and workplace adjustments provided.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant qualification or experience in FCRM or a related discipline is essential.
  • Experience in Natural Flood Management – commissioning, funding, delivery, and identifying opportunities and barriers to upscaling.
  • Experience in project and grant management; familiarity with EA processes and governance (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance).
  • Experience building and sustaining stakeholder relationships across a range of delivery bodies.
  • Clear, effective communication and strong digital/data skills (including coding, Power BI, Power Automate, and tracking/file management).
  • Proficiency with GIS tools and spatial data analysis.
