2 Days Old

Overview

We’re on an ambitious journey to embed nature-based solutions at the heart of flood resilience. Natural Flood Management (NFM) plays a vital role in reducing flood risk while delivering wider benefits for nature, communities, and society. This permanent role offers an opportunity to help deliver and upscale NFM across England and to support the £25 million NFM Programme through project tracking, grant management, and secretariat support. You’ll also help mainstream innovative approaches trialled through the programme into the wider FCERM investment portfolio. You’ll coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries. The role involves hybrid working with some travel and overnight stays, and incident response responsibilities with the possibility of additional payment and training/workplace adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate specific workstreams within NFM (e.g., environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, asset management) with initiative and independence.
  • Support the delivery and upscaling of the NFM Programme through project tracking and grant management.
  • Secretariat support for the NFM Programme and contribution to mainstreaming innovative approaches into the FCERM investment portfolio.
  • Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Travel as required and participate in incident response as part of the role, including potential additional payment and access to full training and workplace adjustments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant qualification or demonstrable experience in FCRM or a related discipline is essential.
  • Experience in natural flood management and related activities is welcomed, including commissioning, funding, delivery, and upscaling opportunities and barriers.
  • Experience in project and grant management, governance processes (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance), and building/sustaining stakeholder relationships across delivery bodies.
  • Strong communication skills and digital/data proficiency, including coding, Power BI, Power Automate, and effective use of tracking and filing systems.
  • Experience using GIS tools and carrying out spatial data analysis.

Team and Working Arrangements

You’ll join a small, inclusive Natural Flood Management Team within the Strategy and Adaptation Department of the national Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. We’re a collaborative team that welcomes flexible working for all roles.
