Overview

Flood and Coastal Risk Management – Advisor – Natural Flood Management (NFM). This permanent role supports the delivery and upscaling of the £25 million NFM Programme across England, including project tracking, grant management, and secretariat support. The role also helps mainstream innovative NFM approaches into the wider FCERM investment portfolio and coordinates the NFM Community of Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead specific workstreams within NFM (e.g., environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, or asset management) with initiative and independence.
  • Support the delivery and monitoring of the NFM Programme, including project tracking and grant management.
  • Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Work with the team to mainstream trialed approaches into the wider FCERM investment portfolio.
  • Collaborate across teams and external partners to shape flood resilience initiatives.
  • Respond to incidents as part of the incident role and provide business continuity support when needed (may include additional payments and training).

Experience and Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification or experience in FCERM or a related discipline (essential).
  • Experience in natural flood management, commissioning, funding, delivery, and identifying upscaling opportunities.
  • Project and grant management experience.
  • Knowledge of EA processes and governance (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance).
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills across a range of delivery bodies.
  • Clear, effective communication and strong digital/data skills (e.g., Power BI, Power Automate, tracking and filing systems).
  • Proficiency with GIS tools and spatial data analysis.

  • Hybrid working with some travel and overnight stays.
