Flood and Coastal Risk Management - Advisor - Natural Flood Management (NFM) – 32108
This permanent role supports the £25 million NFM Programme by project tracking, grant management, and secretariat support. It helps mainstream innovative NFM approaches into the wider FCERM investment portfolio and coordinates the NFM Community of Practice. The role may involve leading specific workstreams such as environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, or asset management, with initiative and independence. The position involves hybrid working with some travel and overnight stays.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery and upscaling of Natural Flood Management across England as part of the NFM Programme.
- Manage project tracking, grant management, and secretariat activities to ensure programme milestones are met.
- Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
- Lead specific workstreams (e.g., environmental/hydrological monitoring, permitting, asset management) with initiative and independence.
- Respond to incidents as part of business continuity planning; participate in incident roles and receive training and workplace adjustments as needed (additional payment may apply).
- Collaborate within a small, inclusive NFM Team in the Strategy and Adaptation Department of the national Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate.
- Engage with Defra and partners to shape flood resilience strategy, direction, and innovation; support flexible working.
Requirements / Skills
- Proactive, results-focused individual with ability to manage a varied workload, coordinate across teams, and progress work independently.
- Relevant qualification or experience in FCRM or a related discipline (essential).
- Experience in: commissioning, funding, delivery of Natural Flood Management; project and grant management; EA processes and governance (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance); building and maintaining stakeholder relationships; clear, effective communication; strong digital and data skills (coding, Power BI, Power Automate, and use of tracking/file systems); GIS tools and spatial data analysis.
