Overview
Flood and Coastal Risk Management – Advisor – Natural Flood Management (NFM). This permanent role supports delivering and upscaling nature-based solutions to reduce flood risk while delivering wider benefits for nature, communities, and society. You will help deliver and upscale the £25 million NFM Programme across England through project tracking, grant management, and secretariat support, and you will help mainstream innovative approaches trialled through the programme into the wider FCERM investment portfolio.
You will coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries. The role may involve leading specific workstreams such as environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, or asset management, with initiative and independence. The role involves hybrid working with some travel and overnight stays. Responding to incidents is a central part of the work, and you will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond during incidents. This may attract additional payment; full training and workplace adjustments will be provided to support incident work.
Responsibilities
- Deliver and upscale Natural Flood Management (NFM) across England as part of the £25 million NFM Programme.
- Support project tracking, grant management, and secretariat functions for the NFM Programme.
- Mainstream innovative approaches trialled through the programme into the wider FCERM investment portfolio.
- Coordinate the NFM Community of Practice and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
- Lead specific workstreams (e.g., environmental and hydrological monitoring, permitting, asset management) with initiative and independence.
- Travel as required; hybrid working arrangement.
- Respond to incidents as part of normal duties, with training and adjustments provided.
Experience and Qualifications
- A relevant qualification or experience in FCERM or a related discipline is essential.
- Experience in Natural Flood Management – commissioning, funding, delivery, and identifying opportunities and barriers to upscaling.
- Experience in project and grant management.
- Knowledge of EA processes and governance (e.g., Scheme of Delegation and assurance).
- Ability to build and sustain stakeholder relationships across a range of delivery bodies.
- Clear, effective communication skills.
- Strong digital and data skills, including coding, Power BI, Power Automate, and effective use of tracking and filing systems.
- Experience using GIS tools and carrying out spatial data analysis.
