Job Description
Fluvial Geomorphologist role within WSP Sustainable Water Management Consulting supports the Catchment Science team delivering high‑profile projects in water resources, environmental and infrastructure sectors.
- Fluvial geomorphology studies across diverse project portfolio.
- River Condition Assessment for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), including data analysis, reporting and identifying enhancements.
- Water Framework Directive compliance assessments.
- Support Hydromorphology Service Line Lead and wider team delivering technical services to internal and external clients.
- Produce high‑quality client and public‑facing deliverables, excellent communication and visualisation of complex data.
- Collaborate with other disciplines on wide range of challenging projects.
- Promote safety first attitude in line with WSP health and safety policy.
Qualifications
- BSc degree in relevant field; postgraduate degree desirable.
- Relevant experience or PhD in geomorphology.
- Chartered membership of relevant professional institution, or active pursuit of chartership.
- Proven track record of applied Fluvial Geomorphology, knowledge of river types, sediment dynamics, hydraulics.
- Excellent understanding of fluvial geomorphological processes and WFD.
- Experience of planning system and contribution to ES water chapters and WFD assessments.
- Experience of project and budget management.
Team – Rapidly growing Hydromorphology team across UK hubs. Involvement in BNG for rivers and streams area, technical leadership of watercourse component of BNG. Portfolio includes fluvial audits, erosion monitoring, sediment studies, geomorphology and WFD assessment, natural flood management, channel design, new assessment methods. Clients include rail, highways, local authority, housing and private development sectors.
Development and flexibility – Full support for chartership progression, flexible location, hybrid working policy two days a week.
