Overview

Freelance Journalist (Press Release Specialist) – We’re a digital PR agency looking for a journalist (strict requirement) to craft press releases and story packages that journalists actually want to cover. If you’ve spent years in a newsroom or writing for Tier-1/industry outlets and know how to find the angle, write the headline, and position the nut graf—this is for you.

Contract/Freelance · Remote

What you’ll do

  • Turn client news, data, and insights into newsworthy press releases with clear angles, strong ledes, and quotable lines.
  • Shape narratives: identify timely hooks, tie to trends, and anticipate editorial objections.
  • Draft supporting assets (talk-tracks, quotes, bullets, email pitch copy) that make coverage easy.
  • Interview SMEs/founders to extract proof, data points, and compelling soundbites.
  • Collaborate with our PR strategists to align angle, audience, and outlet targets.
  • Edit for clarity, credibility, and newsroom standards (AP/house style).

Must-haves (non-negotiable)

  • You are a journalist by trade (current or former).
  • 3+ years writing for Tier-1 news and/or authoritative industry publications (please list outlets).
  • A portfolio of published, bylined pieces demonstrating news judgment and crisp, concise writing.
  • Mastery of ledes, nut grafs, headline framing, and news values (timeliness, impact, novelty, authority).
  • Experience interviewing sources and fact-checking; comfort with light data storytelling.
  • Flawless English and AP-style proficiency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience packaging proprietary data or surveys into coverage-ready narratives.
  • Familiarity with embargoes/exclusives and how editors assess pitches.
  • Sector exposure to real estate, finance, legal, tech, travel, and health (helpful, not required).

What we offer

  • Flexible, remote contract work with a steady brief flow.
  • Clear creative briefs and fast editorial feedback.
  • Opportunity to shape angles that turn into real coverage, not vanity PR.
  • Competitive per-project or retainer compensation.
