We are looking for a highly motivated and technically skilled Full Stack Developer to join our Customer Technology & Platforms team. In this role, you will design, develop, and support high-quality software solutions that enhance the digital experience for millions of Thames Water customers.

You’ll play a critical role in building modern microservices and APIs, using cutting-edge technologies to drive the evolution of our customer-facing website and backend systems. Working in a highly collaborative agile team, you’ll help deliver scalable and secure solutions that make a real impact.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with cloud-native tools (especially Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes), transforming how customers interact with Thames Water every day.

What you’ll do as a Full Stack Developer

  • Software Development & Delivery: Design and develop high-quality code to support digital products across web and backend systems.
  • Build scalable APIs and microservices to support seamless customer interactions.
  • Write secure, well-tested, and maintainable code using .NET Core and related technologies.
  • Implement containerised solutions with Docker and orchestrate deployments using Kubernetes.

Agile Collaboration & DevOps Practices

  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, retrospectives, daily stand-ups, and pair programming.
  • Apply agile technical practices such as Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD, and continuous testing.
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and designers to deliver working software every sprint.
  • Break down complex requirements into smaller, shippable units of value.

Platform Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the development of reusable components and shared libraries to improve team efficiency.
  • Identify areas for technical improvement and recommend innovative solutions to increase performance and reliability.
  • Maintain and enhance existing codebases with a focus on long-term support and evolution.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, team mentoring, and continuous learning.

Security, Compliance & Monitoring

  • Ensure applications comply with industry standards and internal security guidelines.
  • Leverage cloud-native monitoring tools to ensure high availability and system health.
  • Build secure APIs and services that meet data protection and compliance requirements.

Base location – Hybrid – Clearwater Court, Reading. Working pattern – 36 hours, Monday to Friday.

What you should bring to the role

  • Essential Experience: Experience as a Full Stack Developer, ideally in customer-facing website projects.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering production-ready microservices and APIs.
  • Experience in containerised application development and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of Agile software delivery practices and DevOps principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills in a fast-paced team environment.

Essential Technical Skills & Qualifications: .NET Core, C#, RESTful APIs, Microservices Architecture, js and modern JavaScript, Microsoft Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Agile tools and practices (Scrum, TDD, CI/CD, Azure DevOps).
