About Send
In 2017, Send was founded by Andy Moss, Ben Huckel, and Matt McGrillis with a vision to reshape and enhance the underwriting process for commercial insurers—combining advanced technology with deep industry expertise. By 2019, we had delivered a commercial and specialty Underwriting Workbench for a leading global insurer—streamlining operations, improving efficiency, and enabling forward visibility. In 2022, we won three industry awards for the Underwriting Workbench and raised $10 million in Series A funding to support our expansion in the UK and US. In 2023, we launched Smart Submission and were named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide P&C Intelligent Underwriting Workbench Applications Vendor Assessment. In 2024, we were recognised as a Top Provider in the Datos P&C Workbench report and named a Leader in Celent’s Underwriting Workbench reports for both North America and Global Markets.
Our vision is to be the market‑leading underwriting software platform for agile carriers.
Functional Lead Role
As a Functional Lead, you will sit at the intersection of business analysis, delivery, and product expertise. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping delivery outcomes—defining what good looks like, guiding scope and priorities, and ensuring customer value remains at the heart of every engagement. You’ll use your system knowledge and strategic thinking to translate business intent into achievable, product‑aligned solutions, ensuring our delivery teams build the right things in the right way.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Act as a system and product subject‑matter expert, guiding clients, delivery partners, and internal teams on how Send’s platform can best meet business outcomes.
- Shape and define delivery scope, translating strategic objectives into achievable workstreams that maximise customer value and product alignment.
- Lead and facilitate workshops and discussions to articulate the “why” and “how” behind requirements gathered by Business Analysts.
- Provide clarity and direction to delivery teams, balancing business needs against system capabilities and constraints.
- Support Business Analysts by validating requirements, reviewing user stories, and ensuring alignment to solution scope and business objectives.
- Collaborate with Solution Architects and Product Managers to ensure delivery remains feasible, scalable, and aligned with Send’s product roadmap.
- Influence delivery direction through strong communication and stakeholder engagement, both internally and with customers.
- Participate in demonstrations, playback sessions, and UAT discussions, ensuring delivered functionality supports intended outcomes.
- Act as a guardian of delivery integrity, ensuring solutions stay within scope and aligned with the product’s intended use.
The Skills and Experience Needed
- Insurance Domain Expertise: Strong background in commercial or specialty insurance, ideally with exposure to underwriting workflows, MGAs, or delegated authority.
- System & Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of SaaS or enterprise platforms, with the ability to articulate system capabilities and constraints at both strategic and detailed levels.
- Delivery Influence: Experience steering delivery direction and priorities without formal line management responsibility.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Confident working with senior client stakeholders, delivery partners, and cross‑functional internal teams.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess business needs and translate them into structured, achievable technical and functional outcomes.
- Communication & Facilitation: Skilled at leading discussions, managing differing viewpoints, and achieving alignment on complex topics.
- Business Outcome Focus: Keeps the customer’s business goals at the centre of delivery decisions, tying functionality to tangible value.
- Collaboration: Works closely with Business Analysts, Delivery Managers, and Product teams to create clarity and momentum in delivery.
