The Company
Stanton House is exclusively retained by a complex, high-impact organisation in Reading to hire a Group Financial Controller, offering strong visibility, accessibility, and influence across all levels. With a genuine appetite for change, the business is focused on simplifying processes, modernising systems, and strengthening governance. This is a rare opportunity to join an environment where your impact will be tangible, your voice heard, and your leadership truly valued.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a technically strong and commercially astute Group Financial Controller to lead the enterprise-wide Financial Accounting and Reporting function. Acting as Deputy to the Group Finance Director, you\'ll oversee all financial control, statutory reporting, tax, treasury, and compliance activities, ensuring integrity, accuracy, and audit readiness across the group. Leading a team of around 25-30 finance professionals, you\'ll play a pivotal role in modernising the finance function—tightening controls, embedding accountability, and driving performance through insight. This is both a leadership and transformation role, offering the autonomy to shape financial governance in a business ready for change.
What You'll Do
- Oversee all aspects of Financial Accounting, Reporting, AP/AR, Billing, and Tax & Treasury
- Lead the production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (IFRS/UK GAAP compliant)
- Manage the Annual Report & Accounts process, coordinating inputs from the Board, Audit Committee, and external auditors
- Strengthen the financial control framework, driving compliance and risk management across the enterprise
- Deliver robust financial reporting packs with insight and clarity to support strategic decision-making
- Lead VAT and international compliance (including operations in France)
- Partner with senior stakeholders to drive governance, simplification, and automation of finance processes
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and excellence
What We're Looking For
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
- Experience managing large, multi-disciplinary finance teams (10-15+ FTE)
- Experience of working in a large, complex business
- Proven background in financial accounting, reporting, tax, and treasury at group level
- Strong board exposure - credible and confident communicator with Audit Committee experience
- Skilled at "storytelling through numbers" - able to translate data into actionable insight
- Strong technical grounding in IFRS/UK GAAP with a track record of improving controls and compliance
- Experience in ERP/Finance transformation (e.g. Oracle Fusion, SAP) desirable
What You'll Gain
- ✨ The opportunity to lead, shape and change a finance function
- ✨ High visibility and recognition in a flat, open culture where your impact is immediate
- ✨ A flexible working environment with great benefits
- ✨ Exposure to world-class experts in science, technology, and engineering
- ✨ A chance to deliver meaningful finance transformation in a business embracing change
