Overview

Overview

Our client, a leading organisation in responsible investment and sustainability advocacy, is seeking a Head of Health to lead a cross-cutting programme that harnesses the power of the financial system to improve population health outcomes.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape one of the organisation’s largest and most high-profile initiatives — the Long-term Investors in People’s Health (LIPH) programme — which mobilises investors, engages corporates, and influences policy to address the commercial determinants of health.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, visionary leader with expertise in public health, responsible investment, or corporate accountability, and a passion for building healthier societies through systemic change.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the strategic delivery of the LIPH programme, leveraging investor accountability, corporate engagement, and policy advocacy to drive measurable health impact.
  • Manage a team of 10, providing direct line management to at least three staff members, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.
  • Oversee programme risk management, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) processes.
  • Collaborate with the fundraising team to secure philanthropic and institutional funding, including bid writing, stakeholder management, and reporting.
  • Manage programme budgets, delegating responsibility where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with key external stakeholders, including funders, investors, academics, journalists, and NGOs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on the commercial determinants of health, staying informed on emerging academic, civil society, and policy developments.
  • Represent the programme in the media and external forums, acting as a spokesperson and thought leader.
  • Contribute to organisational strategy and cross-team leadership as part of the senior management group.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to advancing health equity through responsible investment or related systems change.
  • Proven experience leading complex programmes or campaigns at a strategic level.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills across sectors.
  • Excellent communication and media engagement skills.
  • Expertise in either responsible investment or commercial determinants of health.
  • Experience leading advocacy or policy campaigns.
  • Track record in securing philanthropic funding or managing donor relationships.
  • Budget management and reporting experience.
  • Prior experience as a media spokesperson.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce).
  • 8% non-contributory pension (invested in ethical funds).
  • 25 days annual leave (increasing with service) plus end-of-year office closure.
  • Enhanced family leave (up to 18 weeks at 90% pay for either parent).
  • Enhanced sick pay (5 weeks’ full pay from day one).
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offering wellbeing and counselling support.
  • Season ticket loan and Cycle-to-Work scheme.
  • Flexible and hybrid working model (minimum in-office days on Tuesdays).
  • Unionised workplace with recognised staff representation.
  • Opportunities for internal development, progression, and secondments.
