Our client, a sector-leading membership organisation supporting finance professionals in the not-for-profit and charity space, is seeking a dynamic Head of Membership.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead membership growth and engagement across both organisational/charity members and corporate partners. You will be responsible for shaping and delivering a strategy that drives recruitment, retention, and value creation while ensuring a strong balance between commercial outcomes and exceptional member service.

The successful candidate will bring a blend of business development expertise, data-driven decision-making, and leadership skills to build and sustain a thriving membership community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive membership recruitment and retention strategy across both charity and corporate membership.
  • Lead the membership team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and service excellence.
  • Drive membership income growth, ensuring ambitious financial and commercial targets are achieved.
  • Apply a digital-first approach to optimise systems, data management, and processes to support engagement and organisational goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, partners, and sector stakeholders, representing the organisation at events and forums.
  • Analyse market trends, data, and member insights to inform tailored, effective engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate across the organisation to ensure membership offerings are relevant, sustainable, and impactful.
  • Act as a key ambassador, confidently influencing and engaging senior executives, trustees, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in membership recruitment and retention, ideally within a not-for-profit or professional body context.
  • Strong business development skills, with experience achieving significant income and growth targets.
  • Skilled in developing strategies informed by data analysis and market insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance commercial acumen with member-focused service provision.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop a team.
  • Strong networking, negotiation, and influencing skills, with credibility at senior stakeholder level.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, confident in engaging with members at events and forums.
  • A collaborative, innovative, and strategic mindset.
  • Experience working with membership organisations, trade associations, or charities.
  • Familiarity with the charity and not-for-profit sector.
  • Knowledge of digital transformation in membership engagement and CRM systems.
  • Full-time role with flexible, remote working arrangements
