Overview

Head of News & Media at the University of Bath. Lead a talented team to elevate the University's reputation on a local, national and global scale, crafting narratives around world-leading research and managing high-profile integrated campaigns with Marcomms colleagues.

You will oversee the smooth running of the press office, lead integrated media evaluation and reputation management, and work with the Director of Communications and Engagement to advise Senior Management on all communications matters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the News & Media team and collaborate with the wider Communications team to tell compelling stories that support the universitys goals.
  • Oversee the press office operations, manage high-profile campaigns, and drive reputation management strategies.
  • Develop and manage integrated communications activities around sustainability, health & wellbeing, and digital initiatives in line with university priorities.
  • Advise Senior Management on communications matters and provide strategic communications guidance to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Confident and experienced media professional who can mentor and inspire a high-performing team, ideally with a background in higher education or research sectors.
  • Exceptional writing skills; ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Proven expertise in reputation management and a deep understanding of the evolving global media landscape.
  • A self-starter who can identify trends, seize opportunities, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized with a sharp eye for detail and strong collaboration skills.

Further information

This role is offered on a full-time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis. It is a hybrid role, requiring on-campus presence two days per week with flexibility around events and role requirements.
