What’s The Role

You will join the company at a pivotal moment as we scale from a SaaS company to a payment/fintech company. You will work on payment-related topics with the following leaders and teams: Product Manager – Payments; Engineering Manager – Payments; COO; and your KYC and Payment Operations teams. You will shape our payment risk management strategy and implement short-term actions with the CEO’s and COO’s full support to safely grow transaction volume and revenue.

Your mission and objectives

Your mission is to ensure user funds flow securely and smoothly from pay-in to payout while supporting ambitious growth and revenue plans. To do that, you will drive two areas:

  • Payment Risk & Fraud Management
    • Identify risks and vulnerabilities from pay-in to payout, and protect against bad actors
    • Perform due diligence and risk assessment on new and existing clients
    • Run a rapid escalation process for payment fraud incidents
  • Payment Operations
    • Manage disputes/chargebacks and fund recovery from delinquent accounts
    • Resolve operational issues in the pay-in and payout processes requiring coordination with PSPs/payment service providers

We have built the foundation to ensure funds flow securely; moving forward you will manage and build:

  • In-house KYC/KYB and Payment Operations teams
    • KYC/KYB: perform robust due diligence on travel businesses worldwide
    • Payment Operations: monitor transactions for red flags and escalate/resolved issues with other departments and PSPs
  • Tools, e.g., Persona for KYC/KYB automation; Stripe Radar for fraud prevention
  • Collaboration with CEO/COO and Product/Engineering to monitor and protect funds daily

Your Daily Activities

We expect an “owner” mentality to build and run the Payment Risks and Operations organization. Daily activities include:

  • Develop a payment risk management strategy
  • Manage daily operations of KYC/KYB and Payment Operations teams, and potentially a new Risk/Compliance team
  • Monitor red flags of fraud/scams/account takeover and escalate as needed
  • Coordinate case management and communication of fraud incidents
  • Coordinate with PSPs to resolve operational payment issues
  • Review accounts with negative balances due to chargebacks and recover funds
  • Build dashboards to evaluate risk scores with BI/Product/Engineering teams
  • Update Prohibited Businesses lists per PSP requirements and CEO/COO directions
  • Review new KYC/KYB SOPs for new market segments
  • Provide compliance documents to PSPs with the COO
  • Manage the filing process of 1099K forms for applicable clients annually

Why You Should or Shouldn’t Apply

You should apply if you

  • Have 10+ years of experience in payment risks/operations or fraud management
  • Are a payment nerd with experience working for PSPs or closely with them
  • Have experience with US and non-US markets; most payments originate from the US
  • Have an “owner” mentality and are committed to combating fraud
  • Are an effective team leader and communicator; you will lead a team of 10+ and work with C-suite members
  • Having knowledge of the travel industry is a plus, but not required

You might not be the right fit if you

  • Are not comfortable creating structures and frameworks to resolve ambiguity
  • Are not ready to be available for your team when urgent direction is needed (e.g., during escalations)
