Head of Engineering / Director of Software Development – SaaS, IoT, Industrial Systems

Working Arrangements: Hybrid - Uxbridge

About The Company

The company delivers an advanced AI-driven platform for the manufacturing and process industries, helping organisations accelerate digital transformation and Industry 4.0 adoption. Their system co-optimises operational efficiency, product quality, sustainability, and circularity, enabling balanced decision-making across both discrete and continuous processes. With a track record solving real-world industrial challenges, they support sectors including manufacturing, electronics, optics and lasers, food and beverage, chemical, construction, and water and wastewater, operating globally with offices in the UK, Germany, and the UAE.

The Role

As Director of Software Development, you will shape the organisation’s technical strategy and delivery. You will build and scale the engineering function to meet ambitious growth, define product roadmaps, translate business needs into technical solutions, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable software.

You’ll establish engineering best practices, lead architectural modernisation, and ensure timely delivery across cloud, edge, and on-premises deployments. You’ll also provide hands-on oversight and technical credibility with the team.

Is this the right role for you?

This opportunity may not be suitable if:

  • You prefer to focus only on coding and are not interested in strategic leadership responsibilities
  • You prefer a highly structured corporate environment rather than a fast-growing, innovative organisation
  • You are uncomfortable with multiple deployment models and complex industrial systems
  • You are not confident building and scaling teams in partnership with product leadership

This opportunity could be ideal if:

  • You enjoy combining hands-on technical oversight with long-term engineering strategy
  • You are motivated to build and lead high-performing teams from the ground up
  • You want to work with cutting-edge technologies such as SaaS, IoT, Hybrid Digital Twins, and AI-driven platforms
  • You thrive where technology impacts sustainability, operational efficiency, and real-world industrial challenges
  • You want to influence both technical direction and growth of a global organisation

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and scale a high-performing engineering team in partnership with the Product Line Manager
  • Define and deliver the software development roadmap, aligned with product priorities and business outcomes
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire engineers, fostering accountability, craftsmanship, and innovation
  • Oversee Python/Django-based architecture for reliability, security, and scalability
  • Drive secure coding practices, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and peer reviews
  • Collaborate with product, operations, and clients to deliver solutions meeting operational and regulatory needs
  • Balance technical debt reduction with new feature development to ensure long-term platform resilience

Key Requirements — Non-Negotiables

  • 10+ years in software engineering with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Strong expertise in Python, Django, and scalable architecture
  • Experience delivering SaaS platforms, IoT systems, and Hybrid Digital Twin solutions (bonus)
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing teams

Why Apply

This is a rare opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation at the forefront of digital transformation. You will shape the technical direction of cutting-edge SaaS and IoT solutions and build and develop a talented engineering team alongside the Product Manager.
