Location and role detailsOverviewHealth & Safety Lead – West (6 month fixed term contract)Location: Home-Based with Regional Travel (Cornwall, Devon, Avon, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire)Hours: Full-time, Monday - Friday (37.5 hours per week)A full driving licence and car is required for this position.About the RoleAs a Health & Safety Lead, you will oversee health and fire safety management, conduct audits and risk assessments, and provide expert advice to support compliance with regulations and organisational policies. You will report to the Head of Health, Safety and Risk and oversee health and fire safety management within the West region.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct Type 1 and Type 2 Fire Risk Assessments in specialised housing and residential care homes.Oversee health and safety notifications, risk assessments, and incident management within the West region.Investigate accidents and incidents, ensuring root causes are identified and preventative actions are implemented.Ensure compliance with RIDDOR reporting and regulatory frameworks.Monitor and manage fire safety risks, follow up on remedial actions, and liaise with regulatory bodies.Provide expert advice to managers, supporting them in achieving compliance and driving a positive safety culture.Conduct audits, inspections, and assessments to maintain high safety standards.Support the development of policies, procedures, and safety communications to improve workplace safety.Regularly report on key safety performance indicators (KPIs), trends, and risk management insights.What We’re Looking ForMinimum 2 years of experience conducting Type 1 and Type 2 Fire Risk Assessments.A recognised Level 3 Fire Safety/Fire Risk Assessment qualification.Working knowledge of health and fire safety regulations, particularly in a care setting.Experience in auditing, safety inspections, and risk management systems.Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and create reports.Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, able to work collaboratively across teams.Ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, and manage a varied workload.Proficient in Microsoft Office and other safety management systems.Willingness to travel regionally, with overnight stays as required.Desirable Qualifications & ExperienceMembership of IFE or IFSM and a recognised Fire Risk Assessors Register.Experience in health & safety within care or housing sectors.Additional training such as DSE Assessor Course.DBS is required for this position; if you do not have one we will apply for one on your behalf.Why Join Us?At Hft, we believe in creating a future where people with learning disabilities live their best lives.
