Housing Development Team Leader (RP0147) starting salary £55,051 with progression to £58,445 through annual increments. 37 hours (hybrid working). Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Housing Development Team Leader to help shape the future of housing in our borough. This is a leadership role responsible for driving the council’s delivery of affordable homes—whether through direct development, strategic acquisitions, or partnerships with registered providers and developers. You’ll lead the Housing Development team to identify opportunities, manage a robust delivery pipeline, and ensure projects align with our strategic priorities. You will be involved in managing a capital and revenue budget of around £20M. At Welwyn Hatfield, housing is a key priority to provide homes that meet residents’ needs and enhance quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Housing Development team to identify opportunities and manage a robust delivery pipeline for affordable housing.
  • Drive delivery of affordable homes through direct development, strategic acquisitions, or partnerships with registered providers and developers.
  • Ensure projects align with council strategic priorities and manage related capital and revenue budgets (around £20M).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including public representatives, partners, and communities, to deliver high-quality housing outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the housing development portfolio and contribute to service planning and performance reporting.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Experience delivering affordable housing projects and leading a team.
  • Ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
