Indirect Tax Manager – The AA

The AA is looking for an experienced Indirect Tax professional to join our Finance team in Basingstoke. The role is hybrid 3x per week, full‑time permanent with a competitive salary and 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

Role Overview

You will lead the submission of VAT and IPT returns across the AA Group, providing technical tax advice on new products and contracts. The position offers a cross‑functional opportunity to mentor junior staff and influence the Group’s financial integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead VAT matters across the AA Group and serve as the primary contact for compliance.
  • Prepare quarterly VAT returns under PESM, including reverse charge calculations and Capital Goods Scheme compliance.
  • Provide technical VAT advice on new products, services, and contracts to mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with Financial Systems and Finance Business Partners on variable recovery rates and VAT reconciliations.
  • Handle HMRC enquiries professionally and monitor legislative changes.
  • Deputise for the Head of Tax & Payroll and support wider Tax team on IPT, CT, PSA, and ERS matters.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience preparing Group VAT returns using SAP/BW with strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Partial Exemption and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) is advantageous.
  • Ideally CTA qualified or part qualified; ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or ATT if not chartered.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, excellent organisation, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships across teams and with stakeholders.
