Overview
Industrial Installations Regulatory Officer - 31598. We are looking for experienced environmental professionals to join our teams that regulate waste and industrial installations across the East Anglian Region.
As a regulatory officer you will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and securing environmental improvements to support our climate ambitions, green growth and net zero objectives.
Responsibilities
- undertake compliance assessment activities at a range of sites in sectors including food and drink, landfill, waste incineration, chemicals, combustion.
- ensure permit compliance and make complex assessments of an operators" ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise use of resources. At times you will set conditions under which a site may continue to operate and enforce these.
- use your influencing and negotiating skills to secure best practice, often dealing with people at senior levels within industry and local communities.
- respond to and investigate incidents across our portfolio of sites, ensuring preventive and protective action is implemented.
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. You will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment with full training and alternative working arrangements to support your incident role.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
- Proactive, self-motivated and confident communicator, with strong interpersonal skills; able to influence and negotiate to deliver outcomes; with well-developed technical expertise and regulatory experience within an industrial environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Preferred:
- Significant regulatory and/or industrial experience across a range of industries.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems, auditing and root cause analysis, and the ability to interpret environmental monitoring and performance data.
- Experience in managing multiple demands and delivering outcomes independently; taking initiative and adopting a continuous improvement approach.
- Degree/equivalent in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline.
Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IEMA or CIWM is helpful but not essential.
Role specifics and requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence - eligibility for lease cars is assessed based on the role.
- Working from home is accommodated with regular attendance at base location (Norwich, Colchester, Ely or Ipswich).

- Induction and equipment are provided; training and support are provided for the role.
