Ellwood Atfield is partnered with the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) to appoint an Innovation and Research Policy Manager (Clinical). This pivotal role will drive policy and advocacy to enhance the UK’s global competitiveness in R&D and support the development of life‑saving medicines and vaccines.

The ABPI exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop, and access medicines and vaccines that improve patient care. It represents companies of all sizes that invest in discovering and manufacturing medicines and vaccines to enhance and save lives globally.

The Innovation and Research Policy Manager (Clinical) will support the development of and lead on policy advocacy and implementation of projects relating to enhancing pharmaceutical industry R&D in the UK. The post will focus on improving the international competitiveness of the UK environment for delivering clinical research to the pharmaceutical industry.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the development of ABPI’s policy work to enhance the UK's clinical trials environment, streamline industry access to research infrastructure, demonstrate the international standing of the UK’s clinical trials offering, and demonstrate the UK’s global competitiveness in clinical research
• Developing and maintaining collaborations with funders, academia, charities, research organisations, national and international consortia and stakeholders
• Contributing to and supporting innovation and research policy projects and activities across the portfolio
• Leading the organisation of policy meetings, workshops, and forums, and delivering publications from outputs
• Drafting written consultation responses, briefings, policy position papers and commissioning market research
• Providing ABPI secretariat support for relevant member groups, including the Board Sponsored Group and Project Teams

Qualifications

• A life sciences or biomedical degree or previous experience directly relevant to the remit of this role
• Previous experience in a clinical research policy or strategy development role, or strong familiarity with the UK clinical research/trials landscape and policy issues.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage senior industry, government, and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills, with proven experience producing consultations, briefings, policy documents to a high standard, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on deadlines
